4th Annual Writing With Light Student Exhibition

CEPA Gallery and Just Buffalo Literary Center are pleased to announce the 4th Annual Writing With Light Student Exhibition. A celebratory reception will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011 from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at CEPA Gallery, 617 Main Street, Buffalo.

Featuring selected works from CEPA Gallery and Just Buffalo's education programs from 2010-2011, Writing With Light ignites imagination through photography and creative writing. Students of all ages from across Western New York worked with professional writers and photographers, learning to express their young voices through word and image.

The opening reception for the Writing With Light exhibit coincides with National Arts in Education Week, September 11-17, 2011. In late July 2010, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution which states: "The resolution seeks to support the attributes of arts education that are recognized as instrumental to developing a well-rounded education such as creativity, imagination, and cross-cultural understanding. H. Con. Res. 275 also highlights the critical link between those skills and preparing our children for gaining a competitive edge in the global economy." The outcome for students who take part in arts education programming is truly outstanding and thought-provoking. Indeed, the entire Buffalo community will be delighted by what they encounter at Writing With Light's 4th Annual Student Exhibition, on view through September 30th.

Writing With Light reaches 2,500 K-12 students across the region every year, and its emphasis on intensive one-on-one contact between teaching artists and students yields powerful creative results. The exhibit will display work from in-school projects including Picturing Poetry, Soundscapes, and many more. Also in the show will be work from the Writing With Light after-school and summer programs, including Reclaiming Buffalo, which has been recommended for a prestigious National Endowment for the Arts grant.
