Jeffery Byrd Cedar Falls, Iowa 100 Butterflies Performance/Installation

As the new millennium approaches, we find ourselves in an unusual place. A place of fear and disease, where technology provides much, if not all, of our experience. In this place, our relationships with our bodies seems less and less clear. Is the body a noble vessel for the soul, a conduit for amassing information or experience, or merely a shell that we are waiting to shed in the next step of our evolution? This piece is intended as a mediation on the themes of evolution and reconnection with the body. In this piece I will be cocooned for the duration of the exhibition opening. After the gallery closes, the wrappings will be cut away and will be left for the remainder of the show.
