CEPA is pleased to present an exhibition of documentary photographs by acclaimed Harlem based artist Jeffrey Henson Scales, Pictures from America. The exhibition, sponsored by The Buffalo News and Assemblymember Sam Hoyt will be on display at CEPA Gallery from July 9th through August 20. On Friday, July 30, there will be a reception and artist talk by Jeffrey Henson Scales at CEPA Gallery from 5:30 - 8:00pm.

Jeffrey Henson Scales' documentary work examines African American communities across the United States. He has documented the Boys Choir of Harlem, Black Fraternities at Memphis State College, Blues Bars and Musicians, Harlem, Teen Gangs in Compton and South Central LA, the Oakland Black Panthers and Berkeley Riots.

Scales comments, "These are fractions of American moments. Moments that allude to many things; our identities, our isolations, our religions, and sometimes even just the ironics that manifest and momentarily shed a little light on our diverse national personality. These images are like America herself, a cacophony of color and hue. Moments and experiences, both vivid and hideous, that allude to the dramatic melange of possibilites and experiences that in themselves are America."
