CEPA GALLERY & JUST BUFFALO LITERARY CENTER ANNOUNCE THE 2ND ANNUAL WRITING WITH LIGHT EXHIBITION

SATURDAY, MAY 2 AT 5:30 P.M. AT THE MARKET ARCADE BUILDING

CEPA Gallery and Just Buffalo Literary Center are proud to present the 2nd Annual Writing With Light Exhibition, featuring work by students in grades 2-6 from Buffalo area schools.  The exhibition will feature Picturing Poetry projects exploring the themes Create, Respect, and Growth.  Bookmaking and other creative projects will also be featured.  An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 from 5:30-8:00 pm, at CEPA Gallery and Just Buffalo Literary Center in the Market Arcade Building, located at 617 Main Street.  Admission is free and open to the public.

Writing With Light is a joint venture between these two organizations, encompassing a series of educational programs including Picturing Poetry, a unique, multi-disciplinary project developed collaboratively to introduce local students to photography and poetry.

The exhibition will feature selected works by young artists from Frederick Law Olmsted Schools #56 & #64, Highgate Heights School #80, and Our Lady of Black Rock School.  This program is made possible through the generous support of The New York State Council on the Arts Empire State Partnership Project, The National Endowment for the Arts, M&T Bank, and The East Hill Foundation.

CEPA Gallery & Just Buffalo Literary Center developed Picturing Poetry to improve student performance in English Language Arts and Photography, to provide a unique learning environment and opportunity for expression, and to expose the larger community to the work and accomplishments of our young people. Through artist-led classroom workshops, students were instructed in the creation of original photographs, poetry, and personal reflection.
