CEPA Gallery’s popular Visions of Greater Buffalo took place Thursday, May 19, 2011 in the gallery’s exhibition space at Market Arcade. This year, however, there will be some exciting changes designed to put a fresh perspective on the biennial event.

As it has every two years since 2005, CEPA Gallery invited 100 individuals with a unique community perspective to take up single-use Kodak cameras. These Visions VIPs then photographed their “vision” of the region, using their unique perspective. The resulting film was professionally developed, reviewed by a panel of professionals, and the best print was framed and matted for inclusion in a special exhibition that ends with a silent auction featuring all of the Visions works.

“This year we had an especially delightful and diverse group of participants,” noted Sean Donaher, CEPA Gallery Executive Director. “Our Visions VIPs are truly representative of Greater Buffalo and come from the arts, business, sports, community service and faith-based organizations.”

Donaher went on to say that this year’s event would feature some interesting changes: “This year the photographers of the three top-selling photographic works will win a cash award of $3,000, $1500 and $500 respectively. The winners will designate the money to the non-profit of their choice. In addition, the two top-selling Visions photographers will receive framed prints.”

In addition to the creation of cash prizes, this year’s Visions of Greater Buffalo will invite the public to participate. Photos submitted online through the CEPA Gallery website will be streamed through Market Arcade on auction night and on the website in the weeks before and after the May 19 event. Proceeds from Visions of Greater Buffalo benefit will benefit CEPA Gallery’s internationally recognized Exhibition and Youth Education programs.
