CEPA GALLERY WORKSHOPS


CEPA offers photography and graphic design workshops in its education facility; located alongside the Underground Gallery at CEPA’s Market Arcade location.  Computer classes are MAC based.  All classes must be paid in full at time of registration.  Call CEPA Gallery at 856-2717 to register. Cancellation fee of $25 will apply. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice will not receive a refund. Sold out classes will accept a waiting list.

CUSTOM WORKSHOPS Workshops can be tailored to specific needs. Groups of four or more should contact CEPA for additional information and group rates.

Tutoring Individual instruction is available at $35/hr with a two-hour minimum per session.

Darkroom The darkroom is set up for black & white film developing and archival printing with tray chemistry. Enlargers, carriers, and lenses for film formats between 35mm and 4x5 are available. The darkroom has a large sink with the capacity to make prints up to 20" x 24" and an excellent ventilation system.

Digital Lab The digital lab currently has 6 iMacs, Adobe CS3 software, internet access, two Epson 1280's and one Epson 2200.

Darkroom and Digital Lab Hours The darkroom and digital lab are available to both members and non-members. Both are located in the Underground Gallery.

Black & White Photography
Instructor: Charlie Stiffler
Thursdays, January 9, 16, 23, 30 ~ 6:00pm to 9:00pm
Using a SLR film camera, learn how to shoot black and white film and develop and print your photographs in the darkroom. Get the most out of your camera using manual settings for the shutter speed and aperture. Learn how to make good exposures with existing light, choose the best developer to process the film and make high quality fine art photographs. Lectures will include a historical look at photography including the Camera Obscura or “pinhole” camera.

Introduction to Adobe Creative Suite

Saturdays, January 25, February 1, 8, 15 ~ 10:00am-1:00pm
This workshop will introduce students to the Adobe Creative Suite of InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. If you are curious about the difference between the programs and how they work hand in hand, this course will put it all together. The class will get you up and running if you are interested in using the programs to produce marketing materials or simply using them for personal creative projects. Topics will include, page layout, drawing with vector tools to create logos and other designs and prepping photos for print.

Studio Lighting Workshop

Saturday, January 25 ~ 10:00am to 3:00pm
Students need their own digital SLR camera or a film SLR camera. This will be a hands-on workshop working with strobe lights concentrating on still life and portraiture. This will be a basic introduction with the potential to continue at an intermediate and advanced level.

Basic Digital SLR Photography

Wednesdays, January 29, February 5, 12, 19, 26, March 5 ~ 6:30pm to 8:30pm
This workshop will teach the fundamentals of photography and the ins and outs of your digital SLR camera, as well as train and uncover your own particular photographic eye. You will be given the tools to accurately shoot, edit and print your photographs for either creative expression or any photographic situation you may find yourself in.

Digital Point and Shoot Photography

Mondays, February 10, 17, 24, March 3, 10, 17 ~ 6:30pm to 8:30pm
This workshop will teach you the fundamentals of photography and how to get the most out of your digital point and shoot camera. Technical and creative aspects will be covered. You will be given the tools to accurately shoot, edit and print your photographs.

Photoshop for Digital Photographers
Instructor: Alison Slein
Saturdays, February 22, March 1, 8, 15 ~ 10:00am to 1:00pm
Students will learn to use the ten most important tools for photographers. Tools for resizing an image, adjusting density and color, retouching imperfections, the marquee tool, crop tool, magic wand, lasso tool, healing brush, clone stamp and the dodge and burn tool. Participants should bring images to work with and a Flash drive. Students will be using Apple computers and Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop software.

Specialized Digital SLR Photography

Tuesdays, February 25, March 4, 11, 18, 25, April 1 ~ 6:30pm to 8:30pm  
In this class, participants will choose a photographer who inspires them and will challenge themselves to work in that style, both creatively and technically. Students must have taken a Basic Digital SLR class at CEPA or elsewhere or have an understanding of their camera’s manual features.

Intermediate Digital SLR Photography

Wednesdays, March 19, 26, April 2, 9, 16, 23 ~ 6:30pm to 8:30pm
After mastering the basics of a digital SLR, continue exploring a variety of practical and creative topics with this investigative workshop where we will further cultivate your personal approach to image making. Discussions on lighting, color, subject matter, composition combined with projects to consider various photographic possibilities make this a worthwhile class whether you are looking to take photos for personal documentation or creative design. Prior enrollment in CEPA’s Basic Digital SLR Photography workshop is not required, but students should be comfortable using their camera and familiar with basic photographic terms and concepts.

Deciphering the Manual Mode on Digital SLR Cameras
March 21 and 28, 10:00 am to 2:00pm
For the digital photographer that would like to have better control of the photographs they take, here’s a concise workshop geared to just the technical aspects of photography, i.e., aperture, shutter, ISO, WB, and more of those settings on your camera menu that have you puzzled. Essential formulas for exposing images correctly will be demystified and discussed in user-friendly terms making this a perfect class to begin to understand and operate your camera beyond the “auto” settings. This class is for Digital SLR and high-end mirrorless digital cameras with a complete manual mode function.

Photography for Teenagers
Instructor: Amy Meza Luraschi
Saturdays: March 22, 29, April 5, 12 ~ 10:00am to 1:00pm
Beginning to intermediate class for ages 13-19. Students will have an overview of photography, both black and white and digital. Students will shoot film, learn darkroom and will also have an introduction to digital photography. Students will walk away with a portfolio of the work they have completed representing both creative and technical skills.

The Wedding Photographer

This workshop will explore the different styles of wedding photography, from the essential shots that keep clients coming back for more to the lighting techniques and equipment necessary for quality work. If you are interested in learning some of the basics of the business as well as the craft, then this workshop is for you.
