CEPA's Main Place Mall Public Art Exhibits:
Towards the Dream

Totemic Translation of Nature as Related to Life's Passages

My intention is to present a relationship between nature and human form and the spirituality connected to both ... a sense of timelessness, our origins and our migrating souls. These composite images of human bones and water reflections of rock and tree formations are housed in synthetic formalistic capsules raising the question of balance between the human spirit of our natural environment and the forces of advancing technologies.

These sculptures incorporate the use of x-rays, photographic halftone films, acrylic plastic, Corian and fluorescent lighting systems. The artist would like to acknowledge the technical processes and services provided by Seneca Blueprint of Buffalo, Campos Photography and Empire Sign of Rochester, New York.

Thomas is currently a professor of sculpture and three-dimentional design in the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

James Thomas was also included in CEPA Gallery's exhibition
Chambers of Enchantment: Recovery & Loss.
