CEPA Gallery is pleased to announce its 4th annual Emerging Artist Show featuring solo exhibitions by Linda Brown (Boston, MA) and Lara Odell (Buffalo, NY). The exhibition opened with a public reception on Friday, April 16th and will remain on display at CEPA Gallery through Friday, June 18, 1999.

In conjunction with the Emerging Artists Show, CEPA presents 25 Years of Photography, members' work created between 1994 and the present representing the history and diversity of ideas and practice within the CEPA member community.

Linda Brown's digitally altered self-portraits comment on the shifting forms of identity in the digital age. Manipulated images of Brown's face presented on vellum and in compact mirrors for the viewer to search through her features to find their own. Brown comments on the work, "You can be in my face if I can be in yours."

Lara Odell's large ink-jet and photolithographic prints result from digitally manipulated video footage. The project revolves around the fictional character Iris Pupil (played by actress Sara Cooper), whose identity is constructed through a series of fragmented and repetetive shots. The process by which the images and video are created are an attempt to reference the inner world of Iris, and to stress the ambiguity between her reality and her fantasy.
