Michael Anderson

Michael Anderson’s collages are comprised of torn fragments of individual posters and billboards found in New York City, Amsterdam, Berlin and Mexico City. As many as 200 images are re-arranged into a painterly fashion which creates a new relationship of symbols. Through this process, Anderson is able to recapitulate certain modern and eternal allegories that are communicated through the literal relationship of the reconstructed symbols, as well as the heightened density and intense interplay of information and color contrast. The re-arrangement is intended to encourage free-association, resulting in the destruction, reconstruction, abstraction and multiplication of the imagery and text originally composed for the poster. Anderson will construct a large scale collage with sound components covering the entire window surfaces in CEPA’s Window on Main Street.
