Lost in Translation Windows on Main Street A two-window installation Growing up as a first generation Asian American, I've never felt like I was completely either - Asian in heritage and looks, American in ideas and language - a "twinkie" as they like to call it. Lost in Translation, an installation in two boutique windows, deals with issues of communication and identity through a dialogue of spectatorship and consumerism. In the first window, four little girl dresses made of newspaper are suspended from the ceiling, acting as lamps, which spell out READ, much like a cheerleaders' uniform, which shine down on the Chinese newspapers below it. In the second window, a giant wedding dress made from thousands of lipstick stained paper napkins stands alone; the length of the dress spilling out over the floor which is covered with idealized images of Asian beauty.
