Color prints arranged in triptychs expose the clash of values between those of my native Korea and those of my present home in New York. By photographing my face against either an Asian or an American background, an uneasy sense of displacement is caused by conflicting role plays, those learned in Korea with those encountered in the States is revealed. My sense of identity is caught in a struggle between passivity and independence.

Images, without trying to resolve these mixed messages, remain colliding forces and appear vibrant and curious. Viewers enter a bold but unstable world where perspective, both physical and mental, radically shifts. With richly suggestive images and juxtapositions, I invite viewers to formulate their own scenarios about the deeper significance of the messages in these images.
