Community of Elsewheres

Alice O'Malley photographs the artists and other rare beauties of downtown New York, creating an archive of and for those who inhabit the peripheries. Her first solo exhibition Community of Elsewheres (2008) showed at Participant, Inc. (New York), Nina Freudenheim Gallery (Buffalo), agnes b. galerie du jour (Paris), and Isis Gallery (London) where a limited-edition monograph was published by the same name.

O’Malley’s current show at CEPA continues the Community of Elsewheres series in two rooms and introduces a new collection called 13 Looks. The new work is part of an ongoing collaboration between the photographer and the legendary New York nightlife host Kenny Kenny. The pictures in 13 Looks were all made in the same corner of Kenny's dressing room, five floors up in his Greenwich Village flat. This work is being presented for the first time in a gallery.
